Third time a deputy

CANTERBURY Councillor Khodr Saleh has been elected for the third time as the Deputy Mayor of the City of Canterbury.
Honoured and humbled, Cr Saleh said he was particularly grateful for the opportunity to be elected at a time when the council was facing a number of challenges, the biggest one being the amalgamation issue.
“There is no doubt that our local government is going to go through some tough times over the next 12 months with the looming NSW Government’s ‘Fit for the Future’ Amalgamation Plan,” he said.
“The timeline of the Fit for the Future’s plan to amalgamate councils is very fast and could see amalgamations start towards the end of 2015.
“I look forward to working with my fellows councillors over the next year not only to achieve a great deal for our great city and tremendous community but also to achieve unity between all of us.
“When we are united, we achieve great things for our city and community.”
Cr Saleh was first elected to the council in 2004 and previously served as Deputy Mayor in 2008-09 and 2012-2013.
Cr Saleh immigrated to Australia from Lebanon in 1985 and lives in Punchbowl with his wife Nadia and their four children.
