Khodr moved from his war-torn homeland Lebanon to Australia with what appears a seamless ease. But Khodr Saleh is still battling every day and driven by purpose and passion to make a Difference in people’s lives and fostering a spirit of compassion respect and unity within our community.
Discover his remarkable journey from being the first Australian Lebanese Arabic elected to the City of Canterbury as Labor Councillor for four consecutive terms in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2021. He also served as Deputy Mayor for three terms in 2008, 2012, and 2015.
Khodr has provided courageous and creative leadership to the Canterbury Bankstown local communities for over 35 years.
In 2019, Khodr was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his outstanding Service to the community of Canterbury Bankstown.
He founded the Canterbury Bankstown Harmony Group (Harmony Care INC) in 2005.
In 2009 he founded and chaired one of Sydney's most popular, vibrant and culturally diverse events the “Lakemba Ramadan Night Festival”, which attracts more than a million visitors to the City of Canterbury Bankstown.
Additionally, on 24 October 23, Khodr was acknowledged as part of writing history in Australia after has been front and centre behind the resolution of raising the Palestinian flag for first time in Australia in the largest municipality Canterbury Bankstown City in solidarity with the people of Gaza.
Khodr had extensive governance expertise and skills of not-for-profit organisations and local governments, and has higher education qualifications in Governance, media, leadership and management.
