Hundreds join together for a day of harmony

More than 500 people from dozens of creeds and cultures celebrated Harmony Day at Campsie’s Orion Centre on Wednesday.

Many guests arrived at the sixth annual celebration in national dress and others brought traditional food to share with their fellow Australians.

Canterbury Harmony Group’s honorary chairman Karl Saleh said the successful event was an important day on the calendar.

“This is a place where more than 48 different cultures live alongside each other,” he said. “We also have a lot of new arrivals to Australia here, we all need to work together and this is an ideal opportunity.”

Visitors watched dance routines from Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Indonesian, Pacific Islander and Irish troupes. The program also included a tribute to Harmony Group co-founder Anne Sikimeti Latu.
