10 Apr Forging links with neighbours
The Trafalgar Community Tenant Group held a morning tea at Belmore on Friday, April 5, to mark Neighbour Day, an annual celebration of community aimed at encouraging people to get to know their neighbours.
Canterbury Deputy Mayor Councillor Karl Saleh said knowing the person next door or across the street brought many advantages.
“It opens the door to friendship yet also provides reassurance there is someone to turn to quickly for help during an emergency,” he said.
“When communities are connected and neighbours are engaged, our suburbs and towns are strengthened and lives are enriched.
“That simple relationship, which may be no more than a friendly hello, helps build communities which are friendly, active and sustainable.
