A GROUP of Housing NSW tenants from the Punchbowl area joined together for Iftar, the evening meal for breaking the daily fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan.
The special event was organised by Punchbowl Multicultural tenants Group and Sponsor by the Canterbury City Council and held at the community Room Rosemont St Punchbowl.
Canterbury City Councillor Karl Saleh, who addressed the gathering said Canterbury Council was proud to support the evening with Housing NSW to promote understanding between cultures and celebrate diversity and interfaith harmony in our community.
The dinner began with an explanation of the daily religious obligations practiced by Muslims including a short talk about what the special month of Ramadan meant to Muslims.
“Those attending the dinner left, feeling not only content from having enjoyed a wonderful meal but with a new warmth that comes from making friends,” Cr Saleh said
