Cultural performance a harmony highlight

A Harmony Day celebration is planned at Punchbowl Ex-Services Club this morning from 10 am.

Those attending will be treated to a range of cultural performances from around the world, celebrating unity in diversity.

From the traditional dances of Fiji to Lebanese songs, the program is filled with little pieces of cultural pride brought together under the one banner of being Australian.

There will also be a special recital of the song ‘We Are Australian’ by the Padstow TAFE Multicultural Reading and Writing class that meets at Riverwood Community Centre on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Canterbury Cr Karl Saleh encouraged all residents to attend the free event to show pride in their local community.

“Harmony Day is an opportunity to show how proud we are of our society and its diversity,” Cr Saleh said.

“We’re overwhelmed by the response already from our community. Be proud, be proud of your community and be proud to be Australian.

“It’s our duty to encourage this sort of inspiration.”

The event gets underway at Punchbowl Ex-Services Club, 1 The Broadway, from 10 am. To reserve a seat, phone 9584 8473.
