Bid for better disabled access

Canterbury Council will write to the Australian Electoral Commission in a bid to improve access at election booths for people with a disability for the State Election on March 26.

At Thursday’s council meeting, Cr Karl Saleh said residents had expressed a concern about the lack of access at various booths at the federal election in August.

“They actually mentioned to me about 40 per cent of the election booths don’t have access for disabled people to enter, which I consider unacceptable,” he said.

Cr Saleh called for building ramps at each booth and voting forms in large print and Braille.
