25 Apr Anzac Day 2007 — For your tomorrow, we gave our today
Cr Karl Saleh & Ex-Serviceman Larry Bantine at the Anzac Commemoration Service, Punchbowl Ex-Services & Community Club – Sunday 22nd April 2007
“ANZAC Day is one of Australia’s most important occasions, Australia’s most primary commemorative event as it allows us to remember and recognise those who have stood before us to serve and protect Australia,”
It is an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices our servicemen and women have made in defending the Australia we enjoy today.
We owe a great debt to these people. Many of them set off to war unsure if they would return, but strong in the belief that Australia was a country worth fighting for.
I Think is very important for all of us to remind ourselves of the inscriptions seen on war memorials around the world:
“When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today.”
We all take lessons from the wars in which they have fought – and there are no lessons which less deserve to be forgotten.
Today is our chance to credit our servicemen and women – past and present – and let them know that their service is remembered, appreciated and honoured.
