Canterbury Deputy Mayor Cr Karl Saleh has been awarded the 2008 Australasian housing institute inspirational colleague state award.

In recognition of the valuable work he has displayed and the commitment to cultural harmony, Clr. Saleh, who is also the Multicultural access program coordinator at the Riverwood’s Tenant Resource Service, was formally recognized for his hard work.

The Awards showcase social housing success stories in Australia and Newzealands and formally recognise excellence in professional practice, from the grass roots to the most senior levels.

“It is very rewarding to see the results that make a difference in people’s lives. I really see this award as a tribute to our diverse multicultural community and to the terrific job that the Riverwood community centre, Canterbury city council, housing NSW and local social housing tenant volunteers have done in our area, “ Mr., Saleh said.

Acting as a mentor to others engaged in social housing, such as staff employed at the centre or local social housing tenants, Mr. Saleh has developed and implemented a number of culturally specific and mainstream tenant groups.

The secret of his strategy, his belief that a community is all part of an extended family.
